2017 NFL Mock Draft

1. cleveland-browns-logo Cleveland Browns (0-14): Myles Garrett EDGE Texas A&M

In this mock the Browns take the top overall prospect in the draft with Myles Garrett. With a roster this bad the Browns simply need to get multiple picks right. Garrett would provide the Browns with not only a dynamic pass rusher but also a future face of their franchise.

2. san-francisco-49ers-logo San Francisco 49ers (1-13): Reuben Foster LB Alabama

Another team with a horrendous roster, the 49ers select Reuben Foster in hopes of rebuilding their once fearsome defense. Foster is as complete a player as there is in this draft and his comparisons to Luke Kuechly are not unwarranted. Foster would provide the 49ers with a future centerpiece to their defense much in the way Patrick Willis once did.

3.jacksonville-jaguars-logo Jacksonville Jaguars (2-12): DeShone Kizer QB Notre Dame

Too often bad teams hold on to bad players for too long. If the Jags have any sense they will pull the plug on Blake Bortles after this season. He has shown time and time again that he is not good enough to get the job done, the fact he has more career “pick 6s” than career wins should be evidence enough. The Jaguars have a relatively young, promising roster and DeShone Kizer is the most talented signal caller in this class.

4. chicago-bears-logo Chicago Bears (3-11): Jonathan Allen DL Alabama

The Bears could easily grab a QB at this pick but instead I have them taking the top player on the board in DL Jon Allen. Allen is a perfect fit for Vic Fangio’s defense and adding him to an already talented front seven would be a wise move.

5. new-york-jets-logo New York Jets (4-10): Mitch Trubisky QB North Carolina

The Jets are in dire need of a quarterback and in my mind Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg are not the answer. Much like the Jaguars, the Jets have some talented players on their roster including some solid weapons. Trubisky has flown up draft boards and while he may need some seasoning much in the same way Jared Goff did he would represent a huge upgrade over the current state of the Jets quarterback situation.

6.tennessee-titans-logo Tennessee – from Los Angeles (4-10): Malik McDowell DL Michigan State

Tennessee’s biggest need is at the wide receiver position but there is none worthy of being picked number six overall in my opinion. Instead the Titans grab McDowell a versatile and dynamic defensive lineman. McDowell would bring another pass rush threat to an already solid, though run stuffing oriented defensive line.

7. cleveland-browns-logo Cleveland – from Philadelphia (5-9): Leonard Fournette RB LSU

The Browns selected the face of their defense going forward in Myles Garrett at number one overall, here they select their offensive counterpart in Leonard Fournette. . With no other quarterbacks worthy of being taken in the top ten the Browns select Fournette, a complete stud comparable to both Ezekiel Elliot and Todd Gurley. Whoever is taking the snaps at quarterback will be lucky to have Fournette in the backfield with him.

8. san-diego-chargers-logo  San Diego Chargers (5-9): Jamal Adams S LSU

The Chargers never properly replaced long time star Eric Weddle after last offseason. An excellent athlete, Adams is a complete safety both adept in coverage and in run support and worthy of a top ten selection.

9. cincinnati-bengals-logo Cincinnati Bengals (5-8-1): Tim Williams LB Alabama

The Bengals are a surprise drafting in the top ten this year and in turn have a chance to select marquee player which I have them doing in taking Williams. While Williams is seen more as an EDGE rusher he is also adept in space making him a prime candidate for SLB. Williams excellent blitzing ability would be a great fit in the Bengals attacking defense.

10.arizona-cardinals-logo Arizona Cardinals (5-8-1): Marlon Humphrey Alabama

Another team that surprisingly are drafting in the top ten the Cardinals are a team that on paper have few glaring needs. Here I have them grab a true complement to play opposite Patrick Peterson in Humphrey. Humphrey is the top corner in this draft and would be a huge upgrade over the likes of Brandon Williams and Marcus Cooper.

11. carolina-panthers-logo Carolina Panthers (6-8): Jabrill Peppers S Michigan

The Panther’s corners have struggled mightily this season but they are young and still developing. Behind them the safety play has been just ok. Here the Panthers select an athletic defender who can be moved around as a matchup piece. We all know GM Dave Gettleman is tough to predict and Peppers could be too good to pass up.

12.new-orleans-saints-logo New Orleans Saints (6-8): Sidney Jones CB Washington

The New Orleans defense was bad once again, and once again cornerback is towards the top of their needs list. While Dalvin Breaux has been a nice find opposite him the Saints find journeyman Sterling Moore. Sidney Jones has been a stud all year for the Huskies and would be a big upgrade.

13. buffalo-bills-logo Buffalo Bills (7-7): Mike Williams WR Clemson

Outside of Sammy Watkins the Bills’ really lack any consistent weapons for Tyrod Taylor to throw to. The Bills take yet another Clemson Tiger here in Mike Williams after grabbing Sammy Watkins and Shaq Lawson in recent first rounds. Williams would be the perfect complement to Watkins’ explosiveness thanks to his great size and body control.

14. philadelphia-eagles-logo Philadelphia – from Minnesota (7-7): Quincy Wilson CB Florida

Philly’s cornerback situation has been ugly this season with guys like Nolan Carroll and Leodis McKelvin playing at a very pedestrian level this season. Quincy Wilson has shot up draft boards thanks to his play and has the physical traits and speed to play the press man to man that Philly likes to run.

15.indianapolis-colts-logo Indianapolis Colts (7-7): Dalvin Cook RB Florida State

While Frank Gore has been pretty solid this year he is getting up there and one has to wonder how much is left in the tank. Cook would provide an immediate upgrade while also providing excellent value at this juncture. A true homerun threat Cook would be a welcomed sight for Andrew Luck thanks to his ability to make big plays in the passing game.

16.washington-redskins-logo Washington Redskins (7-6-1): Jarrad Davis LB Florida

The Redskins offense has really came on this season thanks to Kirk Cousins’ positive development. With this pick they continue to work on their defense and continue to upgrade their front seven where Davis would be a huge upgrade over Will Compton and would form a nice duo with Su’a Cravens for the future.

17. denver-broncos-logo Denver Broncos (8-6): OJ Howard TE Alabama

Regardless of which young quarterback is taking snaps for the Broncos next year, scoring a stud tight end would be a huge score. Howard is a complete tight end who is a good blocker and a dangerous if not under-utilized weapon in the pass game.

18.tennessee-titans-logo Tennessee Titans (8-6): Corey Davis WR Western Michigan

Marcus Mariota has shown great improvement this season and has the Titans fighting for a playoff spot just a year removed from picking in the top two. To continue his improvement the Titans need to continue to surround him with weapons. Davis might be a small school player but has put up insane numbers and has all the measurable of a first round receiver.

19. baltimore-ravens-logo Baltimore Ravens (8-6): Tre’Davious White CB LSU

Cornerback is one of the few weak spots on what otherwise is a solid looking defense for the Ravens. Hailing for DB University, White is the next in a long line of LSU D-backs to enter the NFL in recent years. Well seasoned, White plays with a swagger that is reminiscent of the great Raven’s defenses of old. Also an excellent punt returner you could expect White to make an impact early on in Baltimore.

20. green-bay-packers-logo Green Bay Packers (8-6): Jake Butt TE Michigan

Not since the days of Jermichael Finley have the Packers had a reliable threat at the tight end position. Butt is a good blocker and would be a dangerous weapon for Aaron Rodger throughout the twilight of his career.

21. houston-texans-logo Houston Texans (8-6): Cam Robinson OT Alabama

While a quarterback will be their biggest need I do not see one worth taking at this juncture. Instead the Texans grab Robinson the extremely talented though inconsistent tackle for the Crimson Tide. With Houston Robinson could take over the right tackle position, the position he is best suited for.

22. tampa-bay-buccaneers-logo Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-6): Jalen Tabor CB Florida

The Buccaneers invested last year’s first round pick on a Gator corner back and this year they do the same. While Brent Grimes has seen a career rejuvenation this season he is 34 and could regress anytime. Tabor is another battle tested corner from the SEC and is thought by some to be better than Vernon Hargreaves was last season.

23. miami-dolphins-logo Miami Dolphins (9-5): Derek Barnett EDGE Tennessee

Current ends Mario Williams and Cameron Wake are both on the wrong side of 30 so I have the Dolphins selecting Derek Barnett the former Volunteer. Barnett would be a steal here as he possesses all the traits needed to be a dominant base defensive end.

24. detroit-lions-logo Detroit Lions (9-5): Desmond King CB Iowa

The Lions need someone opposite their stud corner Darius Slay. Pairing Slay together with Desmond King would create one of the league’s best ball hawking duos. Last season’s Thrope award winner King had a whopping eight interceptions, while teams opted to completely avoid him this season. King’s athleticism and ball skills would be very welcome in the Lion’s secondary.

25.atlanta-falcons-logo Atlanta Falcons (9-5): Charles Harris EDGE Missouri

Vic Beasley has become a force in the NFL yet the Falcons still need pass rushing help opposite him. Harris may be raw as a prospect but has undeniable talent including a tremendous burst off the line making him a feared speed rusher. Playing opposite Beasley would allow Harris opportunities to face one on one protection and contribute.

26.pittsburgh-steelers-logo Pittsburgh Steelers (9-5): Haason Reddick EDGE Temple

The Steeler’s pass rush has been dismal this year despite investing some high draft picks in pass rushers recently, namely Jarvis Jones and Bud Dupree. Haason Reddick’s athleticism is top notch and would allow the Steelers line him up all over their defensive front.

27. kansas-city-chiefs-logo Kansas City Chiefs (10-4): Zack Cunningham LB Vanderbilt

Derrick Johnson has been the cornerstone of the Chiefs defense for what seems like an eternity but he has been slowed by injuries lately and it is time the Chiefs find a suitable replacement. Cunningham is an excellent run defender and would be a great fit in the Chiefs defense next to Johnson before eventually taking over for him in a season or two.

28. new-york-giants-logo New York Giants (10-4): Christian McCafferey Stanford

The Giants could stand to upgrade their running back position as Rashad Jennings has failed to stay healthy and produce. McCafferey would provide an extra wrinkle to the Giants offense and would be an excellent complement to Jennings power running.

29. seattle-seahawks-logo Seattle Seahawks (9-4-1): Forrest Lamp OT Western Kentucky

Seattle had issues on their offensive line coming into the season and that has not changed. Lamp is late to the national scene but is shooting up draft boards rapidly. Booking Lamp with last year’s first round pick Germain Ifedi could give the Seahawks and quarterback Russell Wilson some much needed stability up front.

30. oakland-raiders-logo Oakland Raiders (11-3): Gareon Conley CB Ohio State

The Raiders desperately need to find an upgrade opposite Sean Smith at the cornerback position. Former first round pick DJ Hayden has been a colossal failure and David Amerson is average at best. Conley is the lone hold over from the Buckeye’s loaded secondary last season and finds himself leading yet another talented group.

31. new-england-patriots-logo New England Patriots (12-2): Curtis Samuels RB/WR Ohio State

We all know Bill Belichek loves versatility and pass catching backs. Samuels checks off both of those boxes and is dynamic with the ball in his hands. One can only imagine what Samuels could do with Belichek and Brady after being criminally underused by Urban Meyer this season at Ohio State.

32. dallas-cowboys-logo Dallas Cowboys (12-2): Dawuane Smoot EDGE Illinois

The Cowboys have had to deal with suspensions to both DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory this season and in turn their pass rush has been inconsistent to say the least. While both players are talented the Cowboys cannot rely on either to be on the field thanks to their off-field issues. In Smoot Dallas would get another talented pass rusher with excellent burst and serious upside.
