2019 Carolina Panthers Team Needs

March 19, 2019

As Free Agency has began to slow down it is the perfect time to take a look at the team needs for each team as we get closer to the 2019 NFL Draft. Listed below are the Carolina Panthers Team Needs as they head into the 2019 NFL Draft listed in order of importance.

Carolina Panthers Team Needs

Defensive End

After seventeen seasons, the great Julius Peppers finally decided to retire. With that being said it was like either himself or Mario Addison were getting the job down last season, while the team only amassed 35 sacks. One of the best ways to help out a young, rebuilding defense and primarily secondary is to get after the quarterback with your defensive line. Adding a top end pass rusher is critical if this team looks to compete.

Wide receiver

Carolina has three receivers in highly drafted DJ Moore and Curtis Samuel, paired with veteran Torrey Smith. However, they are three very similar receivers. Finding a replacement for what Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess were supposed to be would give whoever lines up at quarterback a great chance at success.

Offensive Guard

The Panthers never really replaced Andrew Norwell after he left for Jacksonville last off season. Continued efforts to shore up a line that has been a work in progress has become an even bigger concern with a quarterback that has had trouble staying healthy the past few seasons.

Running back

The teams running back depth chart reads Christian McCaffrey and those whose names aren’t worth mentioning. Finding a solid stable mate to keep McCaffrey fresh and off the injury list is key for the long-term success of the team.

Quarterback

With Cam Newton and the shoulder injury that limited or kept him out for most of last season, finding a competent backup quarterback has become a need. And by finding, I do not mean looking for undrafted free agents like Kyle Allen last season, the team needs to grab a day two draft pick that can be groomed behind Newton to keep the team rolling when, not if, he has to sit due to injury.
