Mississippi State DT Jeffery Simmons won’t be invited to NFL combine

in News

One of the top prospects for the 2019 NFL draft, Mississippi State defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons, was informed by the NFL Thursday that he won’t be invited to the 2019 scouting combine.

Simmons’ past alleged issues involving violence are the reason for the ban.

Simmons was involved in a physical altercation with a woman in 2016, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

How this will impact Simmons’ draft stock is a great unknown. It’s highly unlikely NFL teams weren’t already aware of his checkered past, so his absence from the NFL combine is more of an inconvenience for scouts and front offices that were hoping to gather more information about him as a person and as an athlete in advance of his college pro day.

Simmons has to prove in the run up to the draft that he can be trusted off the field, otherwise, his current first-round grade will freefall as the next few months unfold.
