2021 NFL Draft Team Needs: New York Jets

New York Jets NFL draft team needs

In this latest installment of our ongoing pre-draft series, we take a look at the New York Jets’ 2021 NFL draft team needs.

Much can and will change between now and the time the draft kicks off, especially with free agency filling some of the voids currently on rosters across the league. We’ll update this post as the Jets’ signings are announced during the free agency period.

With New York locking up the second overall pick in the 2021 draft, it’s time to dig into their roster and rank their three most pressing needs as the offseason approaches.

Top Need: Wide receiver

This is a tough one to nail down for the Jets. They have a lot of needs. Like, a lot.

The first thing that New York has to  determine is whether Sam Darnold is their quarterback moving forward. If the answer is no, then that’s their biggest and most obvious need. But after investing the third overall pick in the 2018 draft on Darnold, it’s likely they’ll give him another season to prove himself.

As a result, the Jets have to give Darnold a chance to succeed by providing him with more pass-catchers. Denzel Mims was a good start in the second round of last year’s draft, and New York can dip into the Day-2 pool again this year because of the depth of the position in the 2021 class.
