The franchise formerly known as the Washington Football Team got a facelift this offseason: new name, new threads, and according to the latest 2022 NFL mock draft from CBS sports, a new quarterback too.

The newly minted Washington Commanders usher in a new era with Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett at No. 11 overall.

“Pickett’s immense experience and well-rounded skillset give him the best shot among the quarterback prospects to start in Year 1,” CBS Sports’ Kyle Stackpole wrote. “And even if he does not win the starting job during the preseason, there’s a good chance he’ll take over as the starter at some point in 2022 and produce with a solid cast of playmakers around him.”

There’s no ‘if’ regarding Pickett winning the Commanders’ starting job if he ends up in Washington. In fact, no matter where Pickett gets drafted in the 2022 NFL Draft — whether it’s Carolina, Denver, Washington, or Pittsburgh — he’ll open the 2022 season as the starter. He’s that kind of player; a savvy pro-ready prospect who can make all the throws and bring reliability and consistency to an offense.

Pickett, with running back Antonio Gibson and wide receiver Terry McClaurin, would give Washington its most exciting group of triplets in many years.
