AFC East Team Needs

December 3, 2017

1. Quarterback
Nobody will confuse Tyrod Taylor for Tom Brady or Drew Brees but he has been better than half of the quarterbacks in this league during his tenure. But with him recently benched and 5th round pick Nathan Peterman struggles it could mean the Bills are back into the discussion for a quarterback in the first round.

2. Linebacker
Buffalo lacks the fast and athletic linebackers that have defined Sean McDermott lead defenses. Starters Preston Brown and Ramon Humber have filled in admirably but neither are great fits and are both free agents this offseason.

3. Edge Rusher
Former top 20 pick Shaq Lawson hasn’t yet developed into the player most thought he’d be and is trending into being a bust. Combine that with Jerry Hughes regressing from his two year peak under Rex Ryan.

1. Running Back
The trade deadline move that sent Jay Ayaji to the Eagles was a shocking move that nobody saw coming. The trade leaves a void at running back where neither Damien Williams or Kenyan Drake are viewed as backs that could carry the load.

 2. Guard
Every year it seems that the Dolphins desperately need an improvement at guard. Isaac Asiata was drafted this past year but with Ted Larsen and Jermon Bushrod still starting, the Dolphins could use one of their day two picks o the position rather than using journeymen.

3. Quarterback
Two straight years of ACL injuries to Ryan Tannehill has to have the Dolphins thinking about addressing the position in the draft. Especially when you add in that both Jay Cutler and Matt Moore are free agents and have played poorly this season.

1. Cornerback
New England made a splash by signing Stephon Gilmore in free agency this past year but he hasn’t lived up to his big contract. Add in that Malcolm Butler will be an unrestricted free agent who likely won’t be resigned.

2. Linebacker
Dont’a Hightower’s injury absence has left a big void for the Patriots as Elandon Roberts hasn’t developed like they had hoped and the combination of Kyle Van Noy and company are just role players. New England could use one more all around linebacker to team up with Hightower.

3. Quarterback
While it looks like Tom Brady will play forever, and at age 40 that is likely going to happen in the next couple of years. With Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett traded away this season the Patriots lack the young QB to groom and eventually replace Brady.

1. Quarterback
Josh McCown bounced back after a horrible tenure in Cleveland providing a stable presence to the Jets.  McCown is a free agent and even if he is resigned he isn’t the future and the Jets could go after one of the quarterbacks early in the draft.

2. Cornerback
For Todd Bowles scheme to work he needs an elite cover corner similar to what Patrick Peterson gave him in Arizona. Morris Claiborne provided a strong presence but was only signed as a one year flyer contract. Resigning him and adding another quality corner could really help this defense take the next step.

3. Linebacker
Even though linebackers haven’t been a huge part of Todd Bowles defense, they’ve struggled to get a true tone setter in the middle. Looking for a thumper to pair next to Darron Lee and Jordan Jenkins is a must.
