Chicago Bears 2019 NFL Draft Review

Pick #73- David Montgomery, RB, Iowa State

After trading away running back Jordan Howard this offseason the Bears needed to find a compliment to speedster Tarik Cohen. In Montgomery they found a complete three down back. Montgomery was viewed by some as a first round prospect and represents great value for the Bears who nabbed a day one plug and play starter at the running back position.

Pick #126- Riley Ridley, WR, Georgia

The Bears have a legit number one wide receiver in Allen Robinson and two very good compliments behind him in Anthony Miller and Taylor Gabriel. Adding another talented receiver was necessary for the Bears as Miller and Robinson both have had injury issues and their depth behind these three is questionable. Ridley may not be a top end athlete but is an excellent route runner who should carve out a role as a stick mover in the Bear’s offense.

Pick #205- Duke Shelley, CB, Kansas State

After losing standout nickelback Brice Callahan this offseason through free agency it was pretty apparent that the Bears were going to address the position in the draft. Shelley is a smaller corner coming in at 5’8” 174 pounds, and projects well to the slot.

Pick #222- Kerrith Whyte, RB Florida Atlantic

Whyte did not see many carries in college as he was stuck behind Owls standout running back Devin Singletary and in turn was a bit of a surprise pick by the Bears. He does possess excellent return skills and could make the team as a special teamer/depth running back.

Pick #238- Stephen Denmark, CB, Valdosta State

Taking guys like Stephen Denmark in the seventh round are always wise moves. Denmark only played corner for a single season but wowed at his pro-day. With excellent athleticism and good size Denmark is a low risk, high upside pick who could turn out to be a real find for Chicago.

Overall Grade- B-

Best Pick: David Montgomery

Biggest Reach: Duke Shelley

Best Value: Stephen Denmark
