Detroit Lions Team Needs

With Free Agency all but over the Lions made some subtle moves in their transition under Matt Patricia as head coach. But their real moves will come in the 2018 NFL Draft and here is a look at the Detroit Lions Team Needs heading into the draft.

Tight End

The release of Eric Ebron left a gaping hole at the tight end position where nothing exists but depth pieces. Finding a starting caliber option to compete for the starting job has to be a top priority in the draft.

Defensive End

The Lions franchise tagged Ziggy Ansah but have no future starters on the roster behind him. Finding an elite level pass rusher in the early rounds to compete for the starting job opposite Ansah and eventually replace him will be a major addition to a defense in need of playmakers.

Cornerback

Finding a player to compete with Jalen Tabor for the spot opposite stud Darius Slay will once again be a top priority. In a division with Aaron Rodgers and now Kirk Cousins, having a solid defensive backfield is a must.

Center

With no starting options on the roster for the center position it is looking more likely that the Lions will look to the draft and a veteran interior offensive lineman to compete. Bulking up the interior of the offensive line is a solid choice for a team looking to run more in 2018.

Running Back

The Ameer Abdullah experiment has yet to pan out and a young replacement is way past due. It seems that the Lions have marked this as a must have improvement with the signing of Legarrette Blount but they will look to grab someone in the top half of the draft to take over the bulk of the carries in 2018.

Defensive Tackle

Finding a mid to late round prospect to compete for the tackle position opposite second year pro A’Shawn Robinson has been discussed as a top priority for new coach Matt Patricia. His experience in coaching up the position will help to get the most out of a high upside prospect like B.J. Hill.

Offensive Guard

A replacement at left guard plus quality depth along the interior of the line is overdue. Look for the Lions to continue to make over there offensive line to shore up a major weakness in 2017.
