Dylan Moses NFL Draft

Dylan Moses | Best Alabama Linebacking Prospect?

June 12, 2019

In the Nick Saban era the Crimson Tide have routinely put out elite linebackers. Whether it’s Rolando McClain, Dont’a Hightower, CJ Mosley, Reggie Ragland, Reuben Foster, or Rashaan Evans the it’s not out of the question to call Alabama Linebacker U. It’s literately been next man up for Alabama and that guy this year is junior Dylan Moses. Hype and expectations are nothing new for Moses who came to Alabama as a highly touted 5 Star Prospect. Now that Dylan Moses is NFL Draft eligible we take a look if he is the Crimson Tide’s best linebacking prospect under Saban.

What Dylan Moses Does Well

While you may look at Moses explosiveness or his ability to run sideline to sideline to make tackles, the best trait that Moses has is his recognition skills. By having that ability to quickly diagnose plays allows his elite physical traits to kick in and get him to the ball fast. Moses can also play with power too showing the ability to physically take on blockers and shed rather than try and run around them. In coverage Moses’ quickness and change of direction skills allow him to stick not only with tight ends but also some receivers. Against Ole Miss Moses was able to cover AJ Brown who was a second round pick and considered one of the top slot receivers.

Concerns about Dylan Moses

It seems crazy to insinuate that a prospect entering his true junior season, but when you watch Moses there really are not many big holes in his game. Sure Moses could stand to show more awareness in coverage as he has lost his receiver after initially covering them up or continue to improve at getting off blocks. But in all reality Moses is just needing to clean up some of his areas to continue his development as an elite NFL Draft prospect.

The sky is the limit for Moses who has already enjoyed a ton of early success at Alabama. In his first year as a starter in 2018 Dylan Moses finished with 86 tackles and 10 tackles for loss. While those numbers are impressive, playing on an elite defense Moses was able to beat his block or put himself into position to make tackles but Quinnin Williams or Raekwon Davis had already beaten their block to make the play.

But the question remains, is he the best Alabama inside linebacker under Nick Saban? Reuben Foster and CJ Mosley are the two best linebackers at this point. Moses is on equal terms with Foster with his athletic traits while having the instincts of Mosley. While Alabama has produced some elite linebackers Moses may be the best because he is the most clean. He’s got it all with athletic traits, instincts, toughness and size. Because of this Moses has a shot to be a top 5 pick in the NFL Draft and should go down as the best Alabama linebacker prospect to date.
