New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas met with the media on Tuesday and explained the team’s reasoning behind Monday’s decision to trade third-year quarterback Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers for a package of 2021 and 2022 NFL draft picks.
Here’s what Douglas had to say about the move:
Joe Douglas confirmed the Jets did consider keeping Sam Darnold and pairing him with a rookie QB in 2021. "Ultimately we felt that wouldn’t be the best situation for Sam, the rookie quarterback, coach Saleh, his staff and the locker room."

So, are the Jets locked in on a QB?
Said Joe Douglas: "I think that's a fair assessment to say. … You can kind of see the direction we're heading."

So, which QB are the Jets taking at 2?
Said Joe Douglas: "We still have our process that needs to be worked through. … There’s certainly some meat left on the bone when it comes to our draft process.”
