Here’s who Trevor Lawrence will throw passes to during Clemson’s pro day

Trevor Lawrence

All eyes will be on Clemson quarterback and the presumed No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence at the Tigers pro day on Thursday. And while it’s fantastic that Lawrence will throw in front of NFL scouts, it feels a little anticlimactic considering there’s virtually no chance the Jacksonville Jaguars will pass on him with the first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

A bigger opportunity may be available for the receivers Lawrence is throwing to. For example, 2021 draft prospect Cornell Powell is an intriguing big-bodied prospect who impressed at the Reese’s Senior Bowl and can seize an opportunity to climb the draft board with a strong showing on campus.

But Powell won’t be alone. Some Clemson alumni will take their best swing at getting back in the league as well. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero shared the lineup of pass-catchers who will be charged with making Lawrence look good.

It’s isn’t uncommon for free agents who haven’t received much if any interest from teams to try and jumpstart their careers at a high-profile pro day. And with COVID-19 impacting the traditional path for players like Charone Peake and Chris Finke to get back into the NFL, an opportunity to run routes at Lawrence’s pro day is the best chance they’ll have to land on an offseason roster.

We’ll have updates from Lawrence’s pro day (aka Clemson’s pro day) as the event unfolds.
