Houston Texans Team Needs

Offensive Tackle

Deshaun Watson was putting up big yards and points before his injury but was often on the run because of defensive pressure. Rookie Julie’n Davenport filled in for Daune Brown who was a mid-season trade and shows potential, where Derek Newton is injured too much to be trusted.

Outside Linebacker

When together Jadeveon Clowney and Whitney Mercilus are one the best pass rushing duos in the league. An injury to Mercilus exposed a lack of depth in the unit forcing inside linebacker Brian Cushing to the outside and causing the Texans to drop to 23rd in the NFL in sacks.

Defensive End

On the surface defensive end is not a big need but with JJ Watt missing 22 games the past two years finding an eventual replacement may be worth exploring. The Texans need to determine if they feel comfortable with Carlos Watkins and Brandon Dunn as possible starters or whether a veteran needs to be added.

Guard

For years the Texans have tried to sure up their interior offensive line but it has come to no avail as Xavier Su’a Filo has struggled and likely won’t be resigned. Zach Fulton was brought in from Kansas City but investing another draft pick in the position would only enhance the line.

Wide Receiver

DeAndre Hopkins is one of the best receivers in the league while Will Fuller was terrific with Watson running the show. Injuries have plagued Fuller’s career causing him to miss 9 games in two years while Braxton Miller hasn’t developed into the weapon many thought he’d be at this point.

Tight End

Even with CJ Fidorewtz deciding to resume his career after concussion issues the Texans cannot count on his availability as one more concussion could end his career. Ryan Griffin and Stephen Anderson are good compliments but neither is starting material which may force the Texans to target someone with one of their day two picks.

Quarterback

While it has only been five games it looks as if Houston’s decision to trade up for Deshaun Watson was brilliant. The issue is his backup as Tom Savage is a free agent. With Watson having torn his ACL twice it may be a good idea to have a quality backup.
