The San Francisco 49ers put on a clinic in team building this offseason. It started with their trade of DeForest Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts for the 13th overall pick in the first round. It concluded with their selection of South Carolina defensive lineman, Javon Kinlaw, with that selection.
It was a masterful play by general manager John Lynch. He ended up with a player who has as much if not more upside than Buckner, at the same position, for a fraction of the salary-cap cost.
Kinlaw is going to terrorize interior offensive linemen next season. He was the best player on the field at the 2020 Senior Bowl and possesses a rare combination of size, length and brute power.
Not only will Kinlaw fill Buckner’s void in the starting lineup; he’ll wear the number he vacated, too.
