LSU studs opt-out of 2020 season, enter 2021 NFL draft

Tyler Shelvin

The LSU Tigers’ magic carpet ride is over.

One season after losing QB Joe Burrow to the NFL Draft, two other stars from the Tigers’ national championship squad are turning pro and opting out of the 2020 college season due to COVID-19 concerns: WR Ja’Marr Chase and DL Tyler Shelvin.

Shelvin announced his decision on Monday.

As for Chase, he decided his time at LSU was up last week.

Both players figure to be first-round picks in April and had nothing to really play for in 2020. With so much uncertainty surrounding this year’s college football season, the risk of injury outweighed any team reward (will we even have a national championship?). Plus, with both players riding first-round grades into the season, the only direction their stock could’ve gone was down.

We’ll have complete scouting reports on both players in the coming months. For now, you can check out our summer scouting profile of Chase here.
