McKenzie Milton NFL Draft

McKenzie Milton | Can He Come Back?

June 7, 2019

A lightly recruited prospect out of Hawaii, Milton was able to come in as a true freshman and kick start the Central Florida offense before leading them to an undefeated season in 2017 and had the Knights on that same pace in 2018 before going down with a gruesome knee injury. With McKenzie Milton missing the 2020 season but we take a look at Milton’s NFL Draft future to see if he can bounce back and regain his hype.

What McKenzie Milton Does Well

A big part of McKenzie Milton’s success at Central Florida has been his ability to create big plays not only with his arm but also his feet. Using quickness and lateral agility Milton is able to move around in the pocket to avoid pressure but also to bounce it outside to keep the play alive. As a passer Milton doesn’t have a huge arm but he does show enough arm strength to go with his ball placement skills and there is a reason he’s thrown for 8,683 career yards and 72 touchdowns.

McKenzie Milton NFL Draft Outlook

Coming back from this knee injury is going to be the biggest challenge, but early reports is that Milton is showing good progress and is close to being off crutches. Milton already announced that he will be sitting out the 2019 College Football season while taking a redshirt year. Not only will this redshirt year allow Milton to get back to 100% before he sees the field again, but it could also allow him to work on his mechanics that are inconsistent. These often can lead to some errant passes that are either intercepted or fell incomplete.

If Milton is able to come back to 100% he’ll have to show progress in his development as a passer if he wants to be drafted and have a chance to stick with an NFL team. His size (5’11 185lbs) will be an issue with some teams while his accuracy needs to improve. However we have seen worse quarterbacks drafted the last several years. The biggest hope though is he can get healthy because Milton is a great person and a fun football player to watch.
