New Orleans Saints 2019 NFL Draft Review

May 1, 2019

2nd Round, Pick #48: Erik McCoy C Texas A&M

4th Round, Pick #3: Chauncey Gardner-Johnson S Florida

6th Round, Pick #4: Saquan Hampton S Rutgers

7th Round, Pick #17: Alize Mack TE Notre Dame

7th Round, Pick #30: Kaden Elliss LB Idaho

The Saints didn’t have many picks in the 2019 draft and the few that they did have weren’t particularly high. However, despite being limited in the draft they still managed to get great value. They were able to trade up and draft Erik McCoy in the second round which is an absolute steal. For perspective, McCoy was higher on my big board than both offensive lineman the Falcons drafted in the first round as well as Buccaneers first round pick Devin White.

McCoy can be the heart of the Saints offensive line for the next decade and will likely see a few pro bowls over the course of his career. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson was another guy who I thought was outstanding value. Seeing him fall to the fourth round was a shock and makes me wonder if he has issues behind closed doors. But if he has no major unknown issues, Gardner-Johnson is a first round talent and can make an impact with the Saints immediately.
