The New York Jets are in the pole position for Clemson quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, and any mock draft published between now and the start of the 2021 NFL Draft will feature Lawrence at the No.1 pick regardless of who ends up with it at the end of the season.
For now, that’s the Jets, who hold a one-game advantage over the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are a quarterback-needy club in their own right.
At 0-12 and with a remaining schedule that has this team looking at an 0-16 season, it’s time to look ahead at what their 2021 NFL draft haul could look like.
Here’s a seven-round Jets mock draft.
1.01: Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
-The easiest pick in the draft. Lawrence is the best player in this year’s draft, and the best player to come out in many years. He’ll transform a Jets organization that needs a player like him as the face of the franchise in the most demanding city in the country. Lawrence will thrive in New York, assuming Adam Gase is no longer the head coach.
1.25: Shaun Wade, CB, Ohio State
-With their second first-round pick acquired from the Seahawks in the Jamal Adams trade, New York upgrades its secondary with senior cornerback, Shaun Wade. While Wade isn’t enjoying the kind of productive senior season that was expected of him, it’s hard to hold this year against any player in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. He’s a talented cover corner who the Jets can plug-and-play in their starting lineup
2.33: Azeez Ojulari, Edge, Georgia
-An explosive pass-rusher who has 6.5 sacks in eight games this season. The Jets need to upgrade their pass rush, which currently ranks 25th in the NFL with just 20 sacks through 12 games this year.
3.65: Kadarius Toney, WR, Florida
-An explosive playmaking pass-catcher who offers more after-the-catch ability than Jamison Crowder and would make a fantastic complement to 2020’s second-round pick, Denzel Mims. A passing game led by Trevor Lawrence and young receivers like Mims and Toney is one to take very seriously moving forward.
