Are the New York Jets Tanking?

After a five win season and a veteran laden team it was clear that the Jets were going to need to go through some wholesale changes. All indications would be for the Jets to blow up the roster and do a complete rebuild, but with Todd Bowles on the hot seat and maybe a some heat on GM Mike Maccagnan they might not go full rebuild.

At first the Jets looked like the Jets were not going to go full rebuild. QB Josh McNown was signed to start at quarterback over Bryce Petty and Chrisitan Hackenburg while Kelvin Beachum and Morris Claiborne were also brought in. Those moves and a solid draft and the Jets could put up a respectable season keeping them out of the race for the number one pick.

But when the draft came the Jets avoided drafting for need but tended to draft with the future in mind with only Jamal Adams expecting to be an instant impact player. Couple that with the release of David Harris and the impending release of Eric Decker and it raises the question of the Jets are purposely tanking?

You would think so, but why would they sign McNown and not let Petty and Hackenburg play out the year to see what they have in them? But the Jets are a clear favorite to get the first overall pick and likely a shot at the top quarterback in a class that many are already praising. Could we see USC’s Sam Darnold, UCLA’s Josh Rosen, or Wyoming’s Josh Allen in Gang Green in 2018?
