Scouting Report

Evan Neal Scouting Report

6’6, 360 pounds (EST) … was selected as one of Alabama’s permanent captains in 2021 … a consensus first-team All-American … started 40 games over the last three seasons, including 13 at left guard, 12 at right tackle, and 15 at left tackle; a versatile prospect … ended the 2021 season with an 85.8 grade from PFF; finished 2020 with an 83.7 … a five-star recruit in high school who was rated as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the nation … Physically, Evan Neal is a mountain of a man; he’s every bit of 360 pounds … his thick frame is impressive; he’s a legit 360-pounder who’s a good blend of upper- and lower-body mass; he has tree trunks for legs and his arm length is fantastic … Athletically, Evan Neal moves better than you’d expect for a guy as big as he is but there are times that his feet can appear heavy; his kick slide is efficient and good enough to feel confident he’ll hold up against speed rushers in the NFL, but there are some reps on film when he looks labored to keep up with quick-twitch rushers … Evan Neal is sound and reliable in pass protection; his punch is as strong as any prospect who’s entered the league in recent seasons and his hands are overflowing with brute strength; the jolt he generates on contact is downright scary … power rushers don’t stand a chance against him and as stated above, his ability to hang against speed — both on the edge and against inside counters — is fine … he’s a flexible guy who shows good bend, and his anchor is the best in the 2022 NFL Draft … In the run game, Evan Neal has the upside to be an absolute road-grader in the NFL; he’s more of a power player than a guy who’d thrive in space; there are countless reps of Neal pummeling defenders into the ground and springing big runs … while climbing to the second level isn’t his trademark, he’s effective enough to at least wall off defenders and give his running back a free path to travel … Overall, Evan Neal is a blue-chip offensive tackle who will be an immediate starter in the NFL with the upside to become one of the league’s best … even if he struggles against speed on the edge, his experience at guard makes him one of the safest prospects in the entire draft; if he gets kicked inside, he has All-Pro potential … Evan Neal is a top-five prospect who should be given serious consideration for the first overall pick.
