Kyle Hamilton Scouting Report

6’4, 219 (Est) … Second Team All-American in 2021 despite playing just seven games … finished 2021 with 34 tackles, two tackles for loss, three interceptions and four passes defended; totaled 138 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, eight interceptions and 16 passes defended during his career at Notre Dame … a four-star recruit and 103rd overall player in his recruiting class per 247 Sports …

Physically, Kyle Hamilton possesses a rare frame for a defensive back; he’s high-cut with exceptional length and overall mass; he’s every bit of 220 pounds and looks more like an athletic linebacker than a safety at times.

Athletically, Hamilton has rare stop-and-start ability for a safety with his measurables; his backpedal is effortless and his click-and-close is elite; Hamilton is smooth when changing directions and is a coordinated tackler in the open field; his range is unmatched in the 2022 NFL Draft and may be the best of any defensive back to enter the league in many years.

Against the pass, Hamilton presents as a safety who will impact opposing offenses on every snap; he’ll have to be accounted for by quarterbacks in the same way the league’s current elite playmakers like Jalen Ramsey are; his ability to close on passes thrown toward him or even on the opposite side of the field is rare; if a quarterback puts the ball anywhere within Kyle Hamilton’s range, there’s a good chance he’s going to defend it or create a turnover; his elite athleticism enables him to cover any style wide receiver on the third level of the field and he will all but eliminate opposing tight ends down the seam.

Against the run, Hamilton possesses a thumper’s mentality; he’s so gifted that he could start at linebacker and be one of the best in the NFL in his rookie season; his tackling is reliable and impactful .

Overall, there may not be a better prospect in the 2022 NFL draft than Hamilton … he’s the definition of a defensive eraser/defensive weapon that a creative defensive coordinator can use to unlock his unit’s maximum potential … at times, Hamilton looks like he’s cloned on the field; he wows you with his ability to be everywhere on the field … Assuming his medicals checkout, Hamilton is a lock to be a top-five pick and has the natural talent to be considered with the first overall selection … he’s a rare prospect.
