Scouting Report

Myjai Sanders Scouting Report

6’5, 255 (EST) … 2022 Senior Bowl invite … finished 2021 season with 41 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks; finished career at Cincinnati with 119 tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss, and 13.5 sacks … Named First-Team All-ACC in 2020 and 2021 … a three-star recruit from Jacksonville, FL … Physically, Myjai Sanders presents with an athletic body type and a deceptive 250+ pounds; his lower-half is a bit on the skinny side but he has a wide frame with good length … Athletically, Myjai Sanders possesses above-average twitch and an appealing straight-line burst; adequate flexibility to bend the edge, although it won’t be his calling card; he has quick feet that he uses to set up offensive linemen almost like a wide receiver getting into his route … As a pass-rusher, Myjai Sanders plays with a high amount of energy and activity but he isn’t the most effective or consistent at creating pressure; he’s a strong guy with good hands and upper-body strength — he can shed blocks well but doesn’t quite free himself in time to make a play in the backfield; Myjai Sanders is a Point A to Point B pass-rusher — he isn’t the kind of player who can stack rush moves at this point; his arsenal of pass-rush moves is encouraging, he just needs to learn how to layer them in order to counter more effectively … Against the run, Myjai Sanders is more of a chase-and-tackle guy than a player who can reliably be trusted to set the edge; not enough lower-body power to hold up against power players in the NFL; his high-motor and aggressive demeanor will help him in the run game, but he’ll need to prove he can hold up against NFL power in order to be a true three-down edge defender … Overall, Myjai Sanders has the mentality and on-field approach that will appeal to defensive coordinators; he wants to be in the mix on every rep and he’s a handful for offensive linemen in pass protection … his limited production is the result of a combination of below-average lower-body strength and underdeveloped counter moves; if he grows and develops on the next level, he’s a starting-quality edge defender with the potential to record six to eight sacks per season.
