The Trent Williams saga with the Washington Redskins is finally over.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Redskins have traded Williams to the 49ers for San Francisco’s fifth-round pick this year and a 2021 third-round pick.
Finally: The #Redskins have agreed to terms on a trade of LT Trent Williams to the #49ers, per me, @TomPelissero & @MikeGarafolo. It took until Day 3 of the Draft, but Washington gets it done, and SF gets help at a position of need. It’s for a 5th this year and 3rd next year.

Here are some details that surfaced on Twitter:
Trent Williams and the 49ers are expected to restructure the last year on his contract, per source. But Williams will report and will play for SF this season.

Trent Williams was with #49ers coach Kyle Shanahan in Washington. They are very close. He knows the people and the system. If Joe Staley retires, as @MikeGarafolo mentioned, San Francisco gets a guy who can step in immediately, even without an offseason.

The #49ers’ trade for Trent Williams brings Joe Staley’s situation into focus. He has yet to declare whether he’s coming back in 2020. The Williams’ deal would indicate retirement is a very real possibility.

The #Browns were also among the teams who showed interest in Trent Williams, but did not make an offer. Other teams sniffed around, but it came down to the #Vikings and #49ers. Familiarity for Trent Williams on SF’s coaching staff.
