San Francisco 49ers Team Needs

The trade of Jimmy Garoppolo was a big win for the 49ers as they landed their franchise quarterback and are riding a five game winning streak. Free Agency was quiet for the 49ers but with the 2018 NFL Draft just around the corner San Fransisco turns to the draft and here is a look at the San Francisco 49ers Team Needs.

San Francisco 49ers Team Needs

Running Back

Jerick McKinnon was given a massive, and surprising, contract by the team this offseason but that shouldn’t stop the team from finding an early down back. Kyle Shanahan had success with the tandem of Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman in Atlanta, and he will be looking for his early down workhorse in the mold of Freeman in the 2018 draft.

Guard

Finding competition on the interior of the offensive line will go a long way to shoring up a weakness, and is also a smart choice to keep your new highly paid quarterback on his feet while opening lanes for Shanahan’s running game. Watch if Quenton Nelson somehow falls to them at number nine the 49ers will sprint to the podium.

Cornerback

The addition of Richard Sherman will not prohibit the team from continuing to add pieces to a promising young secondary. Look for a mid-round prospect like Duke Dawson out of Florida to compete with last year’s selection Ahkello Witherspoon for snaps in the slot.

Wide Receiver

Not a major need but one the team should keep an eye out for is finding a young wide receiver to pair with new quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Look for the 49ers to grab value here in the early rounds or try to strike gold on day three.

Linebacker

With the possible legal trouble and suspension looming for last year’s first round pick Reuben Foster, the team needs to be looking for depth and completion at all three linebacker positions.

Edge Rusher

Being in the bottom third of the league in sacks is always a sign of needed improvement. Finding someone who can put pressure on the opposing quarterback from either the linebacker or defensive end positions is paramount to help take pressure off a young defense.

Offensive Tackle

Joe Staley has been a staple on the left side for San Francisco for the last decade. But I think we can all see that his days manning the blindside may be coming to an end and bringing in depth and potential future replacements for Staley would be a wise move by John Lynch and company.
