The 2021 NFL Draft is still nearly one year away, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take a look at the early betting odds for who the first overall pick will be.

The favorite, of course, is Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence (-305). Long considered a phenom prospect, Lawrence — barring injury — will be the most coveted player to enter the NFL since Andrew Luck back in 2012.

If you’ve followed the NFL draft long enough, you know that not everything happens the way it’s supposed to. And if any player has a shot at upending Lawrence from the top spot, it’s Ohio State quarterback, Justin Fields.

Fields has the second-best odds at being the No. 1 pick in 2021 (+300) and if Ohio State has the kind of season most analysts are expecting, the Buckeyes will be front and center all year long. And that bodes well for Fields, who already has the kind of dual skill-set to make him a top-five pick regardless of his team’s success.

The interesting name to monitor is Oregon tackle, Penei Sewell. He’s currently regarded as the top non-quarterback likely to be available in next year’s draft and his odds — +400 — of being the first overall pick prove it. The jump from Sewell to the next-best option, Miami quarterback D’Eriq King, is massive. King is currently sitting at +1600.

As for the defensive side of the ball, Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons ranks highest at +2500. Parsons’ quest for the top pick will be a challenging one; only four defensive players since 2000 have been the first overall pick.
