Summary
Dye was a highly productive player for the ducks totaling 398 tackles in his time in Eugene. Dye’s athleticism is eye popping when you put on his tape, his range and ability to function in man and zone coverage is what coaches will love. His toughness should never be questioned, played the last five games of the season playing at a high level with a broken thumb. Dye’s versatility is my favorite part of his game, as he can cover running backs, tight ends and even be flexed out to cover in the slot. Dye needs to improve his anticipation he made up for that in college with his athleticism but he won’t be able to get away with that in the NFL. At times Dye can be prone to over pursuing plays which cause him to over running the ball carrier. Dye’s hand usage in the run game could also use some work as he can get caught without his arms extended at times.
Projection
Dye has the profile on and off the field to work his way into a starter in the NFL. Dye fits best in a 3 – 4 scheme with his ability to drop into coverage and rush the passer. Dye is a perfect third down line backer, he will most likely make his way into the field on special teams to start , his speed and toughness are a perfect for that. Dye should test well at the combine, putting more teams on notice of his abilities.
