Washington Football Team in first-round QB market after benching Dwayne Haskins

The Washington Football Team pulled the plug on the Dwayne Haskins era on Wednesday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Coach Ron Rivera will turn to Kyle Allen, a player whom he has a lot of familiarity with during his tenure with the Carolina Panthers. Allen started 12 games for the Panthers and Rivera last season.

Haskins’ time as a starter didn’t last long. After being selected 15th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, Haskins started 11 games winning just three of them.

For his career, Haskins has a 59.6% completion percentage to go along with 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He failed to inspire any confidence over the first four games of 2020, and with a new coaching staff and front office in place, Washington has made it clear Haskins isn’t their guy.

Washington (1-3) is now firmly in the first-round quarterback market in the 2021 NFL Draft. They probably won’t be bad enough to challenge for the first overall pick, but with a likely selection in the top 10, Rivera could end up with Justin Fields or Trey Lance as his QB-next.
