Washington Football Team in 2021 QB market after releasing Dwayne Haskins

Dwayne Haskins

The Washington Football Team released 2019 first-round pick, Dwayne Haskins, on Monday after a week marred by off-field misconduct and a downright atrocious performance Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

Haskins completed 14-of-28 passes for 154 yards and two interceptions and was replaced in the game by Taylor Heinicke.

Haskins’ poor outing comes days after being photographed at a party without a mask after Week 15’s loss to the Seahawks. He was fined a reported $40,000 and Washingon stripped him of his captaincy.

Haskins was the 15th overall pick of the 2019 NFL draft. His tenure with Washington ends after just 13 starts (3-10 record).

The good news for Washington fans is that the 2021 NFL draft will provide an opportunity to land a quality quarterback prospect in the first round. If WFT wins the NFC East, they won’t pick high enough to land a prospect like Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, or even Trey Lance. But they should be within striking distance for Alabama’s Mac Jones or Florida’s Kyle Trask, each of whom profiles as second-round prospects who are likely to be pushed into the back-half of Round 1.
