WATCH: Derrick Brown runs another 3-cone drill, silences critics

Auburn defensive lineman Derrick Brown is considered one of the top overall prospects available in the 2020 NFL Draft, but as is always the case this time of year, a poorer-than-expected workout at the NFL Combine has hurt his stock.

Prior to his week in Indianapolis, Brown was viewed as a top-five prospect who could come off the board as high as No. 3 overall to the Lions. Now, there are some mock drafts that have him falling outside the top 10.

In case you’ve forgotten, here are Brown’s results from the Combine:

6-5, 326 pounds
40-yard dash: 5.16
Bench press: 28 reps (225 pounds)
Vertical jump: 27 inches
Broad jump: 9 feet
3-cone drill: 8.22

The most damming part of Brown’s Combine workout is his three-cone drill, where his 8.22 ranks as one of the worst in the history of the event.

In an effort to slow his freefall, Brown decided to run the drill again and shared the results on Twitter:

Remember: This is a 326-pound man moving like that. Ridiculous.

Brown won the 2019 Lott IMPACT Trophy, an award that goes to the defensive player who displays the most integrity, maturity, performance, academics, community and tenacity (otherwise known as IMPACT). He finished his season as a first-team All-American and All-SEC performer after registering 55 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and four sacks.

The draft community is making a big mistake by over-scouting Brown. The tape rarely lies, and it certainly doesn’t in Brown’s case. He’s a ferocious penetrator who will wreck opposing gameplans. Those guys are hard to find.
